Time to Empty the “Trash” Before the New Year Begins
One of the worst smells in a home is the smell of a nasty trash can. There have been numerous occasions when I have walked into the kitchen and was greeted by the unpleasant, and even offensive, smell due to the items left overnight in the trash.
As we approach and walk into the New Year, I don’t want anyone to be greeted with the foul smell of “trash.” Hence, it’s time to take out the trash!*
So, make sure you throw out the excessive dirt, excessive mess and excessive clutter before you ring in the New Year.
It’s time to get rid of:
EXCESSIVE DIRT
In life, excessive dirt represents the grimy people who pollute our lives with their filth and toxic actions, thoughts and words. They mistreat us over and over again and some go as far as causing health issues because they hurt our hearts or bring about unnecessary stress. For example, some of our relationships are like toxic waste because they’re toxic to our minds, bodies and souls. We look back over the year, sometimes even years, and ask ourselves, “Did I really wait that long for him/her? Did I allow them to treat me like they did for as long as they did?” Toxic.
Another example is food and I’m definitely guilty of this. There are certain foods that pollute our bodies and literally cause us to have serious health issues. For me, diabetes is something that runs in our family, so it’s my goal to eat a more balanced diet and try to wean myself away from the junk food that I crave. Toxic.
Simply put, if it drains more out of us than it pours into us, then it needs to go out with the trash. In other words, “Don’t let toxic people (or things) rent space in your head. Raise the rent and kick them out” (R. Tew).
EXCESSIVE MESS
Have you ever been around or know people who always like to start drama and stir up confusion – even if it’s not directly related to you? Sometimes we see them on Facebook or Twitter airing their dirty laundry or we hear about them talking about us behind our backs or running our name through the mud. They spread lies or feed us lies and spread gratuitous rumors. Sometimes it’s the “Negative Nancy’s” of the world who never have anything positive to say. At the end of the day, don’t allow messy people to create unnecessary mess in your life.
EXCESSIVE CLUTTER
Unless you’re extremely neat and have perfect cleaning habits, most of us have some type of unnecessary clutter at home…and in our lives too. We have it, don’t use it, but they take up space anyway and usually without any true purpose. Most times it’s hard to make room for new stuff because the clutter takes up so much space. But next year, it’s time to make room for the new things: new home, new career, new love interest, new relationships, new friendships and a new mindset. For some of us this may mean no more phone calls, no more visits, fewer conversations and/or deleting them from our social media accounts. Just like the Facebook feature, sometimes you have to block certain people from your life so you don’t block certain blessings from your life.
It’s hard sometimes, to remove certain people or things from your life that you’ve become so accustomed to, but if they don’t bring about good then what good are they for you in your life? If we were really honest with ourselves, then we can admit there are plenty of people and things that we held onto last year that should’ve been removed much sooner. Nevertheless, thank God for a New Year and a new beginning to start again. It’s been said, “Everyone can’t go back and change the past, but everyone can start a new day tomorrow.”
